Known as one of the more affluent areas in the city, the West Village is a maze of cozy corner shops, well-worn brownstones, and stunning modern architecture. With a noticeably quieter daytime beat than nearby Greenwich Village, this little enclave packs a lot into a small space. Fashion lovers rejoice in their pick of high-end designer boutiques, atmospheric restaurants are in no short supply, and creative professionals find never-ending inspiration in the historic charms that abound.
Meatpacking District
The Meatpacking District, named for the industry that once dominated the far west side of lower Manhattan, has unexpectedly evolved over the past 30 years. Visitors are hard-pressed to see any industrial activity but instead find they are in the epicenter of Manhattan’s vivid club scene. The area between Hudson Street, Washington Street, West 14th Street, and Gansevoort Street provides access to a vast array of West Village commercial retail space, tenanting high-end fashion shops, trendy food and beverage establishments, swanky hotels, and popular attractions including the High Line.
